Bought to the market in 1965 the Transit has become the 3rd best-selling Van of all time, shipping over 8 million vehicles in its lifetime. The Transit still continues to be one of the most popular commercial vehicles today, and its mid-sized version the Transit Custom is one of the most widely sought after commercial vehicles, and it’s not difficult to see why with what it comes with.
In this article we run down through our top 5 favourite features on the Transit Custom and why it would make the perfect fit for any business need.
A Standard feature on the three higher trim levels and an option on the Base Model the Ford SYNC with Voice Control and AppLink offers you the ability to play music, make and receive hands-free calls, and even control apps on your smartphone. The Transit Custom will respond to simple voice commands so you can keep your hands free and your eyes on the road.
A feature not just for passenger vehicles nowadays, the Transit Custom also has the option to add Adaptive Cruise Control. Simply select the speed you wish to travel and the Cruise Control keeps your Transit Custom a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front. If traffic is slowing down in front the sensors at the front of the vehicle detect this and automatically slows you down. It will then accelerate back to the pre-selected speed once the traffic has cleared.
Another option that can be added to your Transit Custom a radar and camera on the vehicle keep a watchful eye on the road and other vehicles. Should the system sense a potential collision it will warn you on the dashboard. If no response is registered then the Active Braking system can pre charge and apply the brakes to help reduce an impact or avoid it completely.
Perhaps the most vital aspect of any commercial vehicle is maximising the loadspace and how easy it is to use. With a variety of wheelbase and roof heights available the Transit Custom has from 6 to 8.3 cubic metres of space (L1/H1 to L2/H2), a load height of up to 1,778mm (H2) and a load length of up to 3.4 metres, thanks to a clever load-through bulkhead (standard with the dual passenger seat).
