More and more European municipalities are announcing that, in the future, only zero-emission vehicles will be allowed on inner-city roads. As a result, fully electric trucks will become a must for transport companies operating in urban areas. The New Generation DAF XD and XF can be fitted with a fully electric PACCAR e-powertrain enabling you to meet new regulations and contribute to healthier cities. PACCAR e-powertrains have been fully tested, offering efficient charging systems, robust electric motors and a large geographical range. With this flexible, high-performance solution, you can deploy a battery electric vehicle for distribution and municipal applications in rural areas.
The advanced DAF XD and XF Electric trucks are powered by the efficient and reliable PACCAR EX-D1 and PACCAR EX-D2 permanent magnet e-motors, which offer outputs from 170 kW/230 hp to 350 kW/480 hp. To perfectly tailor these electric vehicles to your needs and application, a full range of battery packs with 2 up to 5 strings is available, resulting in ‘zero emission’ ranges of over 500 kilometers on a single charge. As a result, through optimal vehicle and charging planning, the trucks can even realize an impressive 1,000 fully electric kilometers per day.
Bodybuilder friendliness
Thanks to flexible and modular packaging of the batteries on the chassis, the New Generation DAF XD and XF Electric offer industry leading bodybuilder friendliness. Battery packs can be optimally tuned to the vehicle’s application, leaving ample space for side loader superstructures and crane legs for instance. A 650V e-PTO is available as an option for powering auxiliary equipment such as an electric cooling installation for temperature-controlled transport or an electro-hydraulic crane.
Fast DC charging standard, AC charging optional
The New Generation XD Electric and XF Electric can be fast charged with powers up to 325 kW, allowing to boost a 3-string battery pack in just over 45 minutes from 0 to 80% of its capacity. Even the largest battery pack can be fully charged from empty to 100% in less than 2 hours.
Optional is an on-board charger with the capability of AC current charging of up to 22 kW. This provides highest flexibility to operate the vehicle, even in remote areas.
Supporting your transition to electric driving
Our DAF dealers support you with tailor-made sales advice based on advanced route simulation models for a smooth conversion to zero emission e-trucks. Furthermore, they offer operational support through a full array of premium PACCAR Chargers, perfectly tuned to the new XD and XF Electric trucks.
The comprehensive range includes fixed charging solutions with powers up to 50 kW using standard AC current and up to 350 kW for ultra-fast DC charging. In addition, there are also mobile chargers available, providing maximum flexibility.
DAF stands for Doorne’s Aanhangwagen Fabriek, which means Van Doorne’s Trailer Factory in Dutch. It is the name of a Dutch truck manufacturer that is part of the American company Paccar.
DAF Trucks are built in the UK at the Leyland plant in Lancashire, England. This is the only major commercial vehicle manufacturer producing trucks in the UK, and it produces over 15,000 vehicles every year. Almost every DAF vehicle registered in the UK is built here.
DAF is owned by PACCAR Inc, a global technology company that designs and manufactures premium quality commercial vehicles. PACCAR acquired DAF in 1996, after DAF had gone bankrupt in 1993. Before that, DAF was partly owned by International Harvester, the Dutch government and the Van Doorne family.
The top speed of the DAF truck depends on the model, the engine, the transmission and the load. For example, the 2009 DAF CF with a 510 hp engine and a 16-speed manual gearbox has a top speed of 85 mph. The new generation DAF XF, XG and XG+ with a 530 hp engine and a 12-speed automated gearbox have a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph) as standard, but this can be increased to 100 km/h (62 mph) or more with optional software.
The biggest DAF truck in terms of cab size and interior volume is the new generation DAF XG+, which has an extra 330 mm space at the rear of the cab, a standing height of 2220 mm, and 14% more interior volume than the old XF Super Space. The biggest DAF truck in terms of weight and load capacity depends on the model, the engine, the chassis and the configuration.
DAF produces light trucks (6-16 tons), such as the LF series, and heavy trucks (>16 tons), such as the CF and XF series. You can find more information about the dimensions and specifications of different DAF models on this website.
DAF Trucks are popular because they offer class-leading efficiency, safety and driver comfort. They have also won many awards, such as the ‘International Truck of the Year 2022’ and the ‘Fleet Truck of the Year’ 16 times. They have a high market share in Europe, especially in the heavy truck segment (17.3%) and in the UK (37.5%). They are also known for their advanced design, low operating costs and reliability. You can find more facts and figures about DAF Trucks on this website.
The torque of a DAF lorry depends on the engine, the gearbox and the rear axle. The PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines deliver 50 to 100 Nm more torque in top gear than the previous generation. The top rated 390kW/530 hp variant delivers 2,550 Nm in each gear and 2,700 Nm in top gear. The TraXon gearbox and the highly efficient rear axle also contribute to the optimal torque delivery. You can find more information about the specifications of different DAF models on this website. If you are asking about the wheel torque settings, they are usually 700 Nm for the CF and XF series, but DAF has introduced a check torque that may be lower. You should always use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
The fuel consumption of a DAF truck depends on many factors, such as the engine, the gearbox, the axle, the driving style, the road conditions and the load. The DAF CF and XF series are designed to deliver industry-leading fuel economy. According to some tests, they can achieve an average of 8.5 mpg (27.7 L/100km) or even lower with the use of DAF Lubricants. You can also monitor your fuel consumption with the Driving Support software that provides relevant information and feedback on your driving behaviour. You can find more information about the specifications and features of different DAF models on this website.
TC stands for Traction Control, which is a system that helps prevent the wheels from spinning or slipping when accelerating or braking on slippery surfaces. The TC warning light on the dashboard indicates the status of the system. It can be either on, off or flashing. If the light is on, it means that the TC system has been manually switched off or there is a fault with the system. If the light is flashing, it means that the TC system is actively engaged to restore traction. You can find more information about the TC system and other features of your DAF truck in the user manuals.
